New Life Bible Institute Recap

Last night we had our weekly bible study, which is called our bible institute. It started out kinda of rough, because anyone who deals with computers know sometimes they have minds of their own. I could not get mine to act right for some reason. Once i prevailed and showed the computer who was the boss everything started to flow right. I just came off of a nine month series and we dug into another last night. We started a study of John MacArthur's the Gospel according to Jesus Christ. What a challenging class we had last night! Without getting too technical in this post, here are some of the areas that we covered.
To start we looked at some of the issues that hurt the universal church today.(Today's Gospel Good news or Bad)
An abandonment of Jesus Gospel i.e. cheap grace, the Lordship of Christ and the judgement of sin.
Our scripture references to launch our study was Matthew chapter 7:13-23 which led through a discourse that took quite a while, as my fellow preachers and brothers know it can get sometimes. Other scriptures used to bring out sub points were 2Cor.13:5, 2Pet.1:10, 1John3:10 , Luke 6:44,1John 3:10, and 1 John 2:4. Ill ask anyone who reads this, please pray for me and the New Life family as the Lord leads us through this study. Pray that the Lord of the harvest will make us into a church that is sold out to do His will.
Thank You and God bless all.

Hey B, Glad to see that some Men of God aren't afraid to tackle the tough issues with regard to church. I had an interesting conversation with a deacon, who feels that Prop 8, the gay marriage initiative is not so much about gays, as it is about stirring the embers to bring out conservatives to challenge Obama.

Without boring you with the details, I 'll just say inreference to your post "B" regarding the judgment of sin, is that sin is still sin no matter what kind of social issue you try to put behind it.

Without getting into all of the political folly, let me just say that this whole mess with same sex marriages, and all the other moral issues affecting the church are a direct result of what D. Elton Trueblood says which is "The existence of the church at a low level."

The universal church today is operating at such a low level, that it has lost is "dunamis" to be able to stand up sin and call it just that. We are so busy trying to be politically correct, that we have ignored what God has to say specifically regarding sin. The wages have not been reduced, neither has the penalty.

Big props to you for manning up and teaching your congregation what a new testament church is supposed to look like and act like!! Be instant in season, and out of season!!!!

Great post Pastor Wilson I look forward to reading more and learning more about the gospel. I am glad that you are allowing the Lord to use you on such a deep topic. Keep teaching, keep preaching and believe and know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
